Chambers: “Common Sense with a thin Veneer of Christian Sentiment on Top”

I read this entry (https://utmost.org/modern-classic/could-this-be-true-of-me/) from Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest for March 4, and it helped me better understand the battle that I face in the flesh between what I want and what God wants. Chambers contrasts God’s calling with “common sense with a thin veneer of Christian sentiment on top.” If you read our previous message “What Does God Want?” you will see there is quite a distinction between our own desires and those of the Father.

In Matthew 16:13-17, Peter confessed that Jesus was the Christ, and Jesus said to him that he was blessed, “because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” This served as a foundation for Peter’s call—an important revelation from God that did not come from the flesh.

I encourage you to read that entry from Oswald Chambers and consider God’s call, something He reveals to you. Compare this with your own Christian common sense and sentiment. Both paths may seem good, but only one brings life. Our blog entry on Bondwoman and Free Woman, also demonstrates this principle.
